2020 Part Two: Let's Be Having You!

Updated: Jul 3

Let's Talk About Six

June's over? Ju-lying. It is hard to believe it has been six months since the clock tolled 12.01 a.m on January 1st, 2020. 26 weeks, 183 days, 4380 hours. During this time, we traversed a terrifying threshold into the unknown. We became the protagonists in our very own pandemic. We were the stars of our very own Netflix series and it.was.chilling.

As we emerge from this extensive emergency, an aroma of appreciation mingled with anticipation infuses the air. We can now tip-toe tentatively towards our new reality.

Just as a baby chick surfaces betwixt broken segments of shell, this could be the perfect time to hatch a post-pandemic plan. 2020 Part Two, let's be having you!

In most sporting events, half-time is a moment for reflection and projection. July is the perfect month to consult your gameplan and evaluate whether it has been effective thus far.

It is also the ideal time to visualise where you see yourself at the end of this year and how you are going to get there.

THREE-STEP REFLECTION:

1. Reconnect with/Identify your Values

If you do not fill your day with high priority actions that inspire you, your day will fill up with low priority distractions that will not. If you do not bring order to your life, disorder will rule your destiny. Go to Dr John DeMartini's website: https://drdemartini.com/values/ to determine your values. https://jamesclear.com/core-values provides a list and recommends choosing five to focus on.

2. Conduct an Integrity Report

James Clear discusses this in his book Atomic Habits. This involves taking time to revisit core values and consider whether you have been living in accordance with them. It is taking time to reflect on your identity and work toward being the type of person you wish to become.

It involves three questions:

(You will probably end up with more once you get started!)

1. What are the core values that drive my life and work?

2. How am I living with integrity right now?

3. How can I set a higher standard in the future?

He describes these as crucial periods of refinement which allow you to consider how your habits are helping you become the person you wish to be.

3. Track Your progress Become a Journal Colonel.

Three journals that I would recommend:

1. The 5 Second Rule Journal by Mel Robbins

2. The 100 Day Goal Journal

3. High Performance Habits Planner by Brendan Burchard

These pages provide a place for reflection and projection. They also leave space for gratitude and habit-tracking. Purposeful writing allows us to manifest what we aspire to have in our life and expand on what we already possess.

- ʜᴇʟᴇɴ ᴋᴇʟʟᴇʀ

We may think that we only see with our glorious globular organs of sight but it is also important to tap into the mind’s eye. The moment the light hits the retina the process of sight begins, however, when you allow the musings of your mind to materialize, it is equally enlightening.

26 weeks, 182 days, 4380 hours, six months. Try to make them count, for yourself and for the ones who don't get the chance. Life is not a given, it's a gift, unwrap your potential every day. Just like objects in your rear-view mirror, goals may be closer than they appear.
